Three women injured in Paris knife attack, suspect detained by off-duty officer
Three women were injured after a man allegedly attacked them with kitchen knives in northern Paris. Two victims suffered serious injuries, while the suspect was detained by an off-duty police officer, according to French authorities.
FRANCE: Three women were injured after a man allegedly attacked them with kitchen knives near Porte de Clichy in northern Paris on Monday morning, with the suspect later detained by an off-duty police officer.
The victims, aged 19, 24 and 36, were taken to hospital following the attack at around 11.30 am local time, according to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez and Paris police.
Two of the women suffered serious injuries, with one wounded in the lower back and another in the abdomen.
Their conditions were described as serious but not immediately considered life-threatening.
Suspect detained at scene
Nunez said the suspect was apprehended by an off-duty police officer who intervened after the attack.
The identity of the suspect has not been released, and authorities have not established a motive.
Nunez said the suspect had made “incoherent statements” following his detention but cautioned against drawing conclusions about the reasons behind the attack.
Victims treated in hospital
The attack took place in the Porte de Clichy area, located in the northwestern part of Paris.
Geoffroy Boulard, mayor of Paris’ 17th district where the incident occurred, said on X that one of the injured women was pregnant.
Authorities have not released further details about the victims’ identities or the circumstances leading up to the attack.
Investigation ongoing
French police are continuing to investigate the incident, including the suspect’s background and possible motive.
The attack occurred shortly after a separate incident in Berlin, Germany, where authorities said an Islamist extremist drove a rented minivan into a Pride parade, killing one woman and injuring 29 others.
French authorities have not linked the Paris stabbing to the Berlin incident and have warned against speculation while investigations remain ongoing.
