HarbourFront Centre closes on 27 July, cruise terminal relocates nearby

HarbourFront Centre ceased operations on Monday, 27 July 2026, marking the end of more than two decades of business at the site, according to a Facebook post by the mall published on 19 June.

The Singapore Cruise Centre, which had operated its international ferry and cruise terminal from HarbourFront Centre since 1992, has relocated to a new site at 5 HarbourFront Avenue.

The new terminal is approximately 70 metres from the previous location. Batam Fast Ferry became the first operator to begin services from the new site, starting on 7 July.

All other ferry operators and cruise operations followed suit from 15 July, the Singapore Cruise Centre said in a statement issued on 15 June.

The operator confirmed that no changes would be made to ferry routes, destinations served or scheduling as a result of the move. Berth locations for ferries and cruise ships also remain unchanged.

Ferry services affected include routes to Indonesian destinations such as Batam Centre, Harbour Bay, Sekupang, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Gold Coast and Nirup Island, alongside international cruise operations.

Background to the closure

HarbourFront Centre's closure was first announced in October 2025 by owner and real estate firm Mapletree Investments (Mapletree), although no specific date was given at the time beyond an indication that it would fall in the second half of 2026.

The 13-storey mall originally opened in 1978 as the World Trade Centre. It was redeveloped at a cost of S$30 million and reopened under its current name in 2003.

According to a report by Mothership published on 26 July, many tenants had already vacated the premises ahead of the closure date, with shutters down across numerous shop units when the outlet visited on 20 July.

Redevelopment plans

The site is set to be redeveloped into a 33-storey mixed-use building comprising office and retail space, according to Mapletree's earlier announcement. The project is expected to be completed by the first half of 2031.

The redevelopment will span approximately 123,000 square metres and include a 13,000 square metre elevated park situated alongside a newly created stretch of waterfront promenade.

The development will also incorporate bicycle parking and end-of-trip facilities, intended to support cycling access via the coastal network in the Greater Southern Waterfront precinct.

Public reaction

Members of the public have been sharing photographs and recollections of HarbourFront Centre online as its closure approached.

Writing in a caption accompanying photographs posted to the Heritage SG Memories Facebook group, one member described the mall's significance, stating: "I will remember in my heart."
